So take a moment and describe for yourself the situation you’re going to use the cooler for.
Alright, what are we waiting for? Let’s discuss the Pelican vs Yeti coolers!
Pelican vs Yeti cooler
The most important thing for coolers, is that they col your products and drinks well. Luckily, both the pelican and Yeti coolers are doing this well enough. So you won’t have to worry about how well they keep your product and drinks cooled when you take them with you on a trip.
Since it is difficult to compare different brands completely with each other, we decided to compare two of the most popular pelican and Yeti coolers would each other. Here they are:
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that both of these coolers have approximately the same volume. The yeti tundra is a bit smaller, but for most people the difference between 65 and 70 quarts is an negligible. (although the Yeti does not exactly have 65 – more on this later).
both the coolers are Premium coolers, so it can be used to keep product cold for several days. It also means that they are more expensive than some budget coolers that you might get for $30 at Walmart. But the quality of those coolers is often bad. If any of them last longer than a couple of hours in the sun, then that can be called miracle.
So if you’re going away for a couple of days without the ability to recharge your cooler with new ice, then it is highly recommended to pick a premium cooler instead of a budget one.
Let’s get back to the Yeti and pelican coolers. Apart from the volume and quality, a lot of other specifications are different between the coolers. so the final decision will depend on a couple of other specifications such as the handles, drain plug, and rubber isolation. So it’s important that you know what you find important in the cooler and that you know what you’re going to use it for. The better you know what you’re gonna do with the cooler and when specifications you need, the easier it will be to find which of these two coolers will suit your situation better.
What I like about the Pelican cooler: More affordable for the same volume
Let’s start with the pelican cooler. The main things of importance for you or that it is more affordable for the same volume. This comes in two ways that the first thing is that Yeti is in general a stronger Brand, and they use this to charge more money for their coolers. The second thing is that for yeti the volume is always a bit less than what it suggests. This depends on the cooler that you pick, but the 65 version is only 52 quarts. This can make it more difficult to compare the volumes of different coolers. But the main thing that I want you to take away from this pelican vs Yeti article is that pelican coolers will give you more volume for less money.
So if you’re on a budget, pelican coolers will be a better choice for you.
Another important thing is the warranty. Pelican actually gives you a limited lifetime warranty. Which is different from the 5-year Warranty that Yeti gives you. Thing is that this is a limited warranty. So you won’t be able to get everything covered. But it lasts longer than the other one. So it depends on how crazy you’re going to act with your cooler. Another thing that’s better are the closing handles. Pelican has an ABS plastic switch button. And you can lock the cooler with a simple click on that button. It’s a nice design and it makes it easy opening and closing. Yeti also has a good closing mechanism, but it doesn’t work as easy as the pelican one.
In general I would recommend you get a pelican cooler you’re going for a high quality cooler that’s made from premium materials, but you don’t wanna break the bank.
What I like about the Yeti cooler: Better drain plug + inclusive warranty
The main things I want you to take away from the Yeti cooler is that the quality is better than for the pelican cooler. The main reason for this is because the rubber that closes the ledge connects better. With the pelican cooler the rubber can start letting go through after a specific amount of uses. This isn’t really bad, since it’s only a little. But if you’re going boating for 7 days in mid August, then this will make a real difference. The Yeti cooler will keep your products longer cool.
Some other things about the Yeti cooler is that it has an inclusive warranty. What this means is that it includes everything for 5 years. The pelican cooler has a lifetime guarantee, but this does not cover wheels, drain plug, gasket and other cooler accessories or cooler fading after 90 Days. So it’s not really a lifetime warranty on everything.
Another nice thing about the Yeti cooler is the drain plug. the Yeti cooler has this better in pelican cooler. It has a simple screw wall plug that you screw up and ice and water drains off. With the pelican cooler this is a drain tube with a screw on top. It’s not connected too well, and with repeated use there is quite a high chance that it will break it some point. Or that it will fall off and is will diminish the yuse you get from the cooler.
I recommend you get the Yeti cooler if budget is not something you worry about. And you just want the highest quality cooler that will keep your products and drink cool for as long as possible. People have reported that it works fine for more than 7 days in the hot sun. Of course this depends on how much products/ice you put in it but reports from users have said that the Yeti works better than the pelican cooler.
